Russian timber export tariff adjustment

Recently, the Russian government once again announced that from January 2 to December 31, 2022, the export tax rate of rough processed wood with humidity of more than 22% and thickness and width of more than 10cm will be increased. Among them, the export tax of coniferous logs is 200 euros per cubic meter, and the export tax of oak, beech, ash and other precious hardwood logs is 250-370 euros per cubic meter. In order to promote the development of its timber deep processing industry, Russia has revised its timber export policy three times since 2021. The first amendment announced that from July 1, 2021, the Russian government will impose an export tariff of 10% on rough processed wood with a humidity of more than 22%, so as to restrict the export of rough processed wood in the name of sawn timber, curb the rise of domestic sawn timber prices and stimulate timber enterprises to produce high value-added products. According to relevant Russian laws and regulations, the export tariff of coniferous wood and oak per cubic meter shall not be less than 13 euro and 15 euro respectively, and no tariff has been imposed before; The export tariff of beech and ash wood is no less than 50 euros per cubic meter, compared with 10 euros and 12 euros per cubic meter respectively. The policy is valid for 6 months. The second amendment announced that Russia would ban the export of coniferous logs or rough processed timber from 2022.
